German Limes Road

On the trail of the Romans

The German Limes Road is a fascinating route that runs along the 700 km long course of the Roman frontier wall. This border wall, also known as the Limes, was an impressive defense system that protected the vast Roman Empire from hostile invaders. Along the road, visitors can experience the history of the Romans firsthand and admire the impressive tower reconstructions that can be found along the way.

Towers and Castles

The tower reconstructions along the German Limes Road are an absolute highlight for history buffs. These faithful replicas of Roman watchtowers offer a unique insight into the lives of Roman soldiers who once patrolled the borders of the empire. From the towers, the soldiers had a wide view over the land and were able to spot potential enemies at an early stage.

Another highlight along the German Limes Road are the Limes forts. These fortresses were strategically important bases along the border wall and served as living and working quarters for the Roman soldiers. Nowadays, visitors can see faithful reconstructions of these forts and imagine what life must have been like over 2,000 years ago.
