Schloss Stolzenfels with the Rhine in the background

Private Group Tour: Stolzenfels Castle

Just a few kilometers from the Koblenz city centre, Stolzenfels castle rises high above the left bank of the Rhine in the district of the same name. In terms of art and cultural history, the castle, which was built in the 19th century from the ruins of a 13th century castle, with its park and gardens, is one of the most remarkable achievements of Prussian Rhine Romanticism. The castle can be easily reached by public transport, boat or car. Direct access is available on foot via a steep, paved path approx. 1 km long. For spontaneous visitors: The interior rooms and gardens can also be visited without a guided tour.

The Tour

At the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley sits Stolzenfels castle—the "crown jewel of Rhine romanticism".

Experience a guided tour of Frederick William IV of Prussia's summer residence , which is now open to visitors from all over the world. The former medieval castle was converted into today's neo-Gothic palace according to plans by the famous Berlin architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Particularly worth seeing are the historic living rooms with original castle furnishings, the Knights' Hall and the castle garden with its rose-covered pergola garden.

from the Rhine terrace, you can enjoy a view as far as Marksburg Castle and down the Rhine to Ehrenbreitstein fortress. The picturesque landscape park, designed by Peter Joseph Lenné, together with the castle, forms a complete work of art of Rhine Romanticism.

In addition to the landscape park, you can also discover the hermitage, which is open exclusively for the tour. (The castle can only be reached via a 20-minute steep footpath that takes you through Peter Joseph Lenné's picturesque landscape park. You will also pass the hermitage, which is open exclusively for the tour.)
